Period:
First Semester
Standard lectures hours:
72
Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (72 hours)
Requirements:

Chemistry (General, inorganic and organic) (this competence is recommended but not imposed).

Final Examination:
Scritto e Orale Congiunti

the test of Sanitary-Environmental Engineering is a written exam, 15 questions with open answer, time available 1 hour. Assessment system: 2 points for each correct answer, 1 point for each correct answer but not complete, 0 point for wrong answers or question without answer, 18 points (18/30) is the minimum to pass the test. The teacher will value the student’s grade of knowledge and the ability in the explaining arguments and presenting outlines, schemes, graphics and figures.
During the test the class room exit is not allowed as well as the use of mobile phones or other electronic devices. At the end of the exam the students must give back all papers given at the start with full name and student’s number.
All the topics presented during the course will be part of the final exam. Only the students regularly enrolled for the exam will be allowed to face it by exhibiting their own university card. The students surprised counterfeiting, the exam will be cancelled till the following session.
If the final mark would be refused, the student must send a written communication, within five days, to Prof. Fabio Conti (fabio.conti@uninsubria.it) and a written and oral exam can be arranged to assess, in detail, his/her real skill. The mark could be even lower than that obtained during the written test.
If the student refuse the evaluation he/she will makes the exam only in the next second session.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The general aim is to learn the bases of Sanitary-Environmental Engineering and, in particular the principles related to the pollution phenomena, the main measure parameters used in this field, the most common processes for supply water and wastewater treatment, for waste and for gas emissions; by means of these instruments the student can have the skills to make a good integrated management.
Another aim of the course is to give minimal knowledge and skills to develop a technical activity in the field of supply water, wastewater, waste and gas emission treatment. The arguments of course program are selected to give a good picture of theoretical and practical themes related to the water treatments, establishing relations between theory and operations that must to face a beginner technician.
To reach this aim the course must teach the Rules of different level, the different qualities of supply water and wastewater, the possibilities to minimize water use, the management options, the different treatment techniques that can reach the pollutants concentration limits for drinking water and treated wastewater discharge in natural water bodies, the treatment’s environmental impacts reduction, the energy and money savings, the different kinds of waste, the manament of waste, the general aspects of air pollution and the treatment of gas emissions.
The main learning skills are:
• To read rule sources;
• To contribute in supply water, wastewater, waste of gas emission characterization;
• To contribute in administrative management of wastewater, wate and gas emission;
• To contribute in the study of a treatment chain designed to water recovery, waste minimization and environmental impact reduction;
• To contribute in design of plants needed to treat supply water, wastewater, waste and gas emisison;
• To participate in treatment plant management;
• To participate in field environmental monitoring;
• To participate in risk reduction for plant workers.
