Ways to check the level of learning
Module A)- Prof.ssa Ruggieri
The exam is intended to verify the acquisition of the above mentioned notions and is divided in two part:
The first one is written and concerns the translator of an Italian legal test into one of the above mentioned language ( English, Spanish, or German); the second one is an oral interview (from a initial general questions to subsequent more specific issue) is about the learning and comprehension of the concept of the criminal procedure. The two scores are average.
Module B)- Prof. Motto
The assesment of knowledge is in oral form.
The student will have to demonstrate the essential knowledge of the Italian civil process and specialist terminology, as well as the ability to translate into Italian an English text in the field of civil procedural law
Targets and expected learning outcomes
Module A)- Prof.ssa Ruggieri
The module concerns the role of the interpreter and of the translator in Criminal Trial.
The teaching is aimed at deepening the Law&Language” skills that the allophone defendant or victim needs in order to exercise his rights in a fair trial.
Module B) - prof. Motto
The course is aimed at providing a basic knowledge of Italian civil trial and to learn the meaning of technical terms used by Legislation on civil proceedings. The student will acquire the ability to translate in a proper and correct manner into a foreign language or from foreign language a text in civil proceedings matter.
Subject and program of the course

Subject of the course will be:
• history of comparative criminal procedural law and related specialized translation issues:
• distinction between the skills in interpreting (oral language) and in translating (written texts):
• introduction to the key words of Italian Criminal trial.
• (at least two thirds of the course) research into the translation of the most important concepts of Criminal Procedure.
Module B) - Prof. Motto.
Civil disputes and their resolution. Judicial protection of rights and jurisdiction in the Constitution. The Code of Civil Procedure. The forms of protection (declarative, enforcement, provisional). Notes on the progress of the cognition process and of the enforcement process. Translation and analysis in the English text of Regulation (EU) 1215/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Jurisdiction, Recognition and Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters. Translation and analysis in the English text of Regulation (EC) 1896/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council creating a European order for payment procedure. Translation and analysis in English text of one or more arbitration rules set up by international arbitration chambers.

Typology of didactic activities

The teaching activities alternates lesson with workshop about the translation of specialist legal tests (e.g. plaintiff, verdict, seizure …) from Italian into the above mentioned language.

Lectures. During the lessons the student's active participation is planned
