Spanish language Advanced 2 and Translation
To attend the Lingua Spagnola Avanzata 2 + laboratories course students MUST have passed the Lingua spagnola avanzata 1 e traduzione.
Furthermore, students will meet the following requirements:
- Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at C1 CEFR level for Spanish;
- Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at C1 CEFR level for Italian;
- Strong motivation and engagement, in class as well as in individual study activities
The final exam consists of a written and an oral test.
Written test
The written test is structured as a DELE C2 test, with the addition of specialized translation. For the translation test students will be allowed to use traditional dictionaries but they will not have access to online resources.
Oral test
The oral test is divided into two parts, one focusing on the lectures and the other one on the “laboratori”.

The course aims to to advance students to degree standards (C2 of the CEFR). Successful students will:
Easily understand all that is heard and read;
Summarize information from a range of source materials, both oral and written;
To give presentations on topics dealt with in class;
Speak fluently and precisely, aware of shades of meaning (also non-literal, metaphorical, ironical, etc.), even in more complex situation;
Be able to translate texts, proficiently using both traditional and online dictionaries.
Translate special language texts from Spanish into Italian, and from Italian into Spanish.
• acquire full command of traditional and digital resources for translation (dictionaries, handbooks, glossaries, lexicographical and grammatical tools, handbooks of discourse analysis, handbook of pragmatics applied to translation studies, handbooks on specialized languages, etc.) to work on specialized translation;
• understand the relevance for the target text of the social dimension of the community where the source text originates and be able to find an equivalent for the socio-cultural influence with the same communicative function for the target text;
• be aware of the social and cultural aspects of each communication system to work autonomously in specialized context with a solid intercultural competence;
• be able to deal with different communicative situations in private, public and professional contexts and to translate general as well as specialized texts.
After consolidating the knowledge acquired in the preceding course unit (C1.2 level of the CEFR), this course will advance students to the C2 level. As outlined in the MA description, particular attention will be devoted to the translation of specialized texts.
By attending both lectures and “laboratori”, students will develop the following skills (C2 level of the CEFR): listening, reading, writing, speaking, specialized translation.
Furthermore, the course will focus on the theoretical issues needed to consolidate communicative skills for the CEFR C2 level (lexical, phraseological, textual, stylistic, cultural competence, as well as skills related to pragmatics and communication). Further indications on specific topics, as well as texts to be translated, exercises, summaries and presentations will be made available on the e-learning platform.
The “laboratori” are intended to consolidate the specific skills of the two MA tracks. The one in the “Traduzione giuridica ed economica” track will focus on business and legal translation from and into both languages (Italian and Spanish). The one in the “Mediazione linguistica, culturale e giuridica” track will focus on issues related to intercultural mediation and translation.

Non-attending students
Attendance is strongly recommended, since the course focuses on language practice. Non-attending students will have to study individually using the materials made available on the e-learning platform. Non-attending students are welcome anytime during office hours of the course convenor and tutors to clarify any aspect of the module. Assessment is the same for both attending and non-attending students.
In class activities will be mainly devoted to the development of the five linguistic skills (reading, writing, listening speaking, interaction). Reading and listening of real-life material will enable students to work on several text types that will be analysed from a communicative, lexical and grammatical perspective. Through a theoretical reflection on the contents analysed, students will be encouraged to transfer the skills acquired to other working environments and thus be able to work on translations, presentations, and to proficiently engage in dialogue and conversation. The “laboratori” (labs) will be mainly devoted to the development of practical skills. The translation lab will focus on morphological, syntactical and lexical aspects of texts. The “intercultural mediation” lab will focus on intercultural situations in the present age and on the role of mediators in contemporary multicultural societies.
