The course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the synthesis and reactivity of various types of metal-carbon bond. The first part will consist in “synthesis and reactivity” of the most used organometallic compounds of the main-group (with reference only to compounds that have only simple carbon-metal bond) to pass then to study the organometallics of transition (compounds that include both simple bonds and carbon multiple bonds metal). The last part of the course is directed to various methodologies that allow the formation of C-X bonds (X = C, N, O, S, P) using various metals as catalysts of transition and as reactive the various organometallics of main-group studied in the first part of the course.

Main group chemistry-1 CFU (8 hours): introduction to Organometallic and synthesis and reactivity of main group compounds such as organolithium and organ sodium. Preparation, structure and application in the synthesis of the compounds of organ magnesium, organ mercury and organ zinc. Hints to the synthesis and the reactivity and structure of compounds such as organ boron, organ aluminum, organ silicon and organ tin.
Chemistry of organ tranzition -3 CFU (24 hours): reactions of oxidative Addition and reductive elimination and of insertion migration with emphasis on stero chemistry of the same. Synthesis and reactivity of hydride metals and alkyl metals. Introduction to the study of olefin metals. Reactions of olefin metals. Synthesis and reactivity of alkyne metals and related reactions such as the Pauson Khand, straight Pauson and Khand cyclotrimerization reactions. Introduction to the chemistry of carbene metals and reactions of various types of metal carbenes. Synthesis, structures, properties and use of carbonyl metals. Synthesis and reactivity of p polyallyl esters. Studies on the reactions of carbonylation and decarbonylation.
Cross coupling reactions-3 CFU (24 hours): historical hints and Negishi Kumada reactions, Suzuki and Stille reaction, Hiyama and Sonogashira reaction. Heck reactions and new protocols. C-Cl bond activation and new binders, C sp3 activation and T-shaped intermediate, C-F bond activation and the various types of Eterocoupling reactions. Direct functionalization of C-H bonds.
The course consists in frontal lectures. It will lasts 56 hours, will imply the use of a video projector which will then project slides on different topics of the course and which will be discussed; this slides, for convenience of approach to the subject, are divided in three files previously provided to students.

The educational material consists of files already provided to the students by the teacher. To analyze the various topics, the following texts are recommended: a) regarding the Organometallics chemistry of the main group — Organometallics Elschenbroich Third completely revised and extended edition Wiley-VCH; b) for the organ transition chemistry: Colman, Icarus, Norton and Finke Principles and Applications of Organotransition Metal Chemistry University Science Books.
