Academic year in which the course will be held:
2017/2018
Course type:
Basic compulsory subjects
Language:
Italian
Credits:
6
Period:
First Semester
Standard lectures hours:
48
Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (48 hours)
Requirements:

The students must know the concept of acidity, basicity, stoichiometry and electronegativity learned in course of inorganic and general chemistry.

Test modality (Exam)
The organic chemistry test has made by both written and oral exam. The written part includes ten questions concerning all the arguments explained in the course, such as: Nomenclature; Conformational analysis; reagents and products in chemical structure modification; creactivity of a specific functional group; concept of acidity and basicity. Only the students receiving at least 16/30 in the written test can deal with the oral part of the exam.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

Aims of the course and expected results about learning ability.
The students should be able to recognize the functional groups present in organic molecules and to give them the correct nomenclature according to the IUPAC rules. Of each functional group, the student must know the main characteristics and predict the reactivity, on the basis of the presence of bonds polarity and of charges and considering the concepts of Electrofile and nucleofile. The mechanisms of the most important reactions will be presented in the course giving particular emphasis to the concept of acidity, catalysis and resonance.

General aspects and nomenclature.
Functional group reactivities:
-ALKANES
-ALKENES
-ALKYNES
-AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS
-ALKYL HALIDES
-ALCOHOLS
-CARBONYLS
-AMINES
-CARBOXYLIC ACIDS and DERIVATIVES (Acyl Chlorides, Esters, Amides, Anhydrides)

Teaching modality
Front lessons with the projection of slides concerning the subject of the lecture.
Furthermore, many structures and mechanisms are written by the teacher on the board during the lecture. All the slides of the course are available on the e-learning site of the University
Texts are also suggested to increase the informations available for the students.

The lectures will be done with the aid of slides ( at disposition of the student) and with the design of chemical structures on a whiteboard. The use of a textbook is stronglysuggested for a better comprehension of the arguments.
