The conference RECYCLING AND RECOVERY OF SOLID WASTE: STATE OF THE ART AND DEVELOPMENTS FOR FOSTERING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY aims to address the problem of solid waste management through the promotion of sustainable practices and appropriate technologies for the reduction of environmental impacts and for the recovery of resources in high-income and developing countries.

Second edition

In this 2nd edition, the focus is given to the challenges and advances in developed and developing countries towards 2030. The topics discussed within the sessions will focus on the resource recovery from solid waste, addressing present and future issues for the optimization of the product life cycle and the waste management from a circular economy perspective, also focusing on the international cooperative framework. Particular attention will be paid to future prospects for the enhancement of waste as a resource, as well as to the role of the circular economy as a principle for the implementation of technologies and policies that guide sustainable development and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthening the link between applied research and industry.

Speakers

Overall, eight speakers from six countries were invited in order to provide evidence about the current advances and challenges related to the implementation of the circular economy principles. The speakers will cover experiences from the academic perspective to the NGO and the private sector. They are all acknowledged experts in the field of the circular economy in its brother meaning. The audience will appreciate the discussion about the financing of research plans, implementation of development cooperative projects, on-field experiences in high-tech treatment plants and low-tech appropriate technologies, the effectiveness of circular policies and education programs.

Format

Four hours conference, two sessions, eight speakers, open “question and answer” sessions. The conference format allows providing a high range of experience to an international audience from an interdisciplinary perspective, giving evidence about the requirements on implementing integrated assessment and activities towards the circular economy era.
